CARERS and residents at a Basingstoke care home have been marking National Carers' Week with a host of celebrations.

Ashcombe House on Worting Road put on pizza nights and summer picnics to say thanks to staff last week, as the event ran nationwide from June 7 until June 13.

Carers' Week is an annual occurrence to raise awareness of caring while highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make tothe community.

The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Making caring visible and valued’ - to shine a light on all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for vulnerable people in our communities.

Staff enjoyed a number of treats throughout the week including a carers' lunch, a summer picnic in the home's garden and a pizza night for staff. They were also recognised with certificates and chocolates.

Louise Lambert, general manager, said she couldn't be prouder of her team and their work over the past year. She said: “It is so wonderful to be able to celebrate Carers' Week and thank our fantastic carers with a few treats, thank you just never seems enough. The carers at Ashcombe go above and beyond everyday to ensure, residents, families and each other are safe and loved."

She added: "I am so proud of my team.”
