A vicar has offered her support to the community following the deaths of a man and a woman on Buckland Avenue, South Ham.

As previously reported, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 20s were found dead at a bungalow in the early hours of this morning.

Hampshire Constabulary has launched an investigation with one man arrested on suspicion of murder.

The incident has left the community shaken with residents feeling “shocked” by the ordeal.

Vicar Alison Bennett, of St Peter’s Church in South Ham, said the church is praying for those involved in the incident.

She said: “I’m unable to open the church at all because of Covid restrictions that are still in place,” she said, “but I’ve offered my support and contact for anyone who needs someone to talk to.”

The vicar has urged people to contact her if they need support, saying: “I would be happy to talk with anyone who needs support. My number is 01256 412596. We are praying as a church for all those involved in this tragic situation.”

Speaking earlier today, Detective Superintendent Neil Corrigan said: “We understand this incident will come as a shock to the local community.

“Please be reassured that we have a number of officers working hard at the scene and the surrounding areas to establish the exact circumstances, and a man is in custody.

“We believe all parties involved in this incident were known to one another.
