TWO airmen from RAF Odiham will run dressed as the legendary Biggles to raise money for other servicemen.

Flight Lieutenant Rich Gray, 29, and Sergeant Ross Tilly, 42, will take on the Great North Run in Gateshead on September 14, along with five other RAF personnel from RAF High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

The team hope to raise money through sponsorship for the RAF Association, which supports current and former RAF servicemen and their families.

Sgt Tilly, an RAF photographer, has worked in theatres of conflict such as the Falklands, Afghanistan and Iraq.

He said: “I have very recently reached the milestone 22-year-point in my career and now want to give something back to those who need it, and I felt the best way of doing that was by raising money for the RAF Association.”

The team will all be wearing Biggles outfits – including a flying helmet, handlebar moustache, pipe and white scarf – and hope to raise more than £3,000.

Biggles was a fictional wartime hero in a series of children’s books by Captain W E Johns.
