A BRAWL in a Basingstoke bar has left a man with a serious eye injury.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, April 28, a 30-year-old man was assaulted in Tonic Bar at the Top of the Town in Basingstoke.

Police say it appears that the man may have been pushed or punched and then kicked while on the floor. Detectives believe a group of men were involved in the incident which happened near the toilets in Tonic, which is in London Street.

The men are described as aged between 19 and 27 and between 5ft 7ins and 6ft 2ins tall. Several were very muscular and well-built. One of the alleged attackers was described as of mixed race and the others were white.

The victim was taken to Basingstoke hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Detective Constable Sol Koranteng of Basingstoke CID said: "There would have been a number of people around when this happened and I would like to hear from anyone who has not already spoken to a police officer.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Koranteng at Basingstoke Police Station on 101 or via the website www.hampshire.police.uk/internet/contact/message_officer.htm You can also call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
