THE man who died when his car was submerged by flood water near a north Hampshire ford has been named.
Jonathan Gammon, 52, of Kingston Lane, Teddington, Middlesex, was in a car that attempted to drive through Headley ford, on the Hampshire/Berkshire border on Monday morning.
The car was swept downstream 100 metres by the fast-flowing River Enborne and became submerged.
His body was recovered from the car by firefighters but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His 55-year-old wife managed to escape and was taken to Basingstoke hospital with shock.
Sergeant Paul Plews, from the Farnborough Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with his wife and family who are understandably very distressed by what’s happened.
“Our investigation is focused on establishing the events leading up to Mr Gammon’s death and we will be preparing a file for the coroner.”
