A NEW youth club for teens in Oakridge has been launched.

Set up with £5,000 funding from the Norden Community Association, new club members joined police, councillors and representatives from Sentinel Housing to celebrate the official opening at Oakridge Hall for All.

Tracey Bulpitt led the project and used the money to buy furniture and update the kitchen to run a snack shop.

She said: “We held youth forums with the children in Oakridge and asked what they wanted.

“There’s a lack of provision for young people in the area and they decided they wanted a club.

“A graffiti artist came during the school holidays and decorated the whole room.”

The club will run every Thursday between 7pm and 9pm, for secondary school-age youngsters.

There will be a snack shop, art and craft activities, board games, a Wii and pool table.

Mrs Bulpitt, who has a 13-year-old son, said: “We opened four weeks ago and we seem to get more and more children each week.

“I grew up in Oakridge and there was nothing available for young people.”
