Sir.-I feel the local council should be commended for endeavouring to improve Glebe Gardens, the park that leads to the town centre from Churchill Way car park.

It is often a pleasure to walk through it.

The sad thing is that, shortly after new benches were installed in the park, mindless individuals seem to have gained pleasure out of putting graffiti on them.

It is also a fact that we are a "throw-away society", but why do the individuals that inhabit the bench under the "big tree" have to litter the park with their rubbish?

Bins are provided, but it appears people are too lazy to move the few feet needed to use them.

Do members of the generation that seems to get pleasure out of vandalising public property, and disposing of litter everywhere, realise that not only are their parents, and possibly they themselves, paying for their mess to be cleared up, but they are also the ones who will inherit what they now sow?

Or are they going to be like pigs and be happy to wallow in their own filth?

God help the future generation if that be the case.
