VOLUNTEERS are needed for the annual fundraising Poppy Appeal.

This year’s Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal is fast approaching on October 30, and will run until November 15, with Remembrance Sunday on November 14.

The Bramley branch of the national charity is looking for more helpers to collect funds and sell poppies house-to-house in the area.

Charles Lewis, chairman of the branch, said: “We really need to cover all the streets in this 90th anniversary year of The RBL. We need to collect in excess of £10,000 from the Branch area. This ought to be possible as we collected over £8,000 last year.

“Bramley WI have already volunteered to cover a lot of Bramley for us but we are still looking for volunteers in Sherborne St John, Sherfield-on-Loddon, Stratfield Saye, the Pambers and also Bramley.”

He added: “I’m really pleased we have got off to a good start this year with a Poppy Ball and fundraising parachute jumps .

“Businesses can also help the appeal by having a poppy collecting tray in their premises.”

The Poppy Appeal provides help for serving and ex-service personnel and their families.

Anyone interested in helping should call 01256 882537, as soon as possible to allow time for planning.

The Tadley and District branch of RBL will also be conducting house-to-house collections and anyone able to volunteer as a collector can contact Sandi Langer on 01189 817901. There will also be a static display at Sainsbury’s, in Mulfords Hill.

Anyone wishing to order wreaths for this year’s Remembrance Sunday in Kingsclere can contact Kingsclere RBL branch secretary Maureen Martin, on 01635 299003.
