IT was a fete to remember for everyone involved at Castle Hill Infant and Junior School last Saturday.
For the first time, the neighbouring schools in Winklebury, Basingstoke, held a joint summer event – and it was a case of double the fun under a dazzling sun.
In the playing field, a hot air balloon basket belched flames while pupils got a taste of a cool coastal sport on a surfing simulator.
In the main arena, young dancers gave a Strictly Come Dancing-style performance while infant school children showed off their traditional country dancing skills as well as a more contemporary hip hop act.
Members of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire Constabulary also popped by to give youngsters a chance to glimpse the latest emergency service equipment.
The event was organised by the Friends of Castle Hill Infant and their counterparts at the junior school.
The money raised from the event will be ploughed into projects in the grounds of the schools, one of which is to create an outdoor classroom.
Fundraising chairman Ewa Thomas said: “We want to improve the landscape environment around the school.”
Castle Hill Junior School head teacher John Martin said: “Judging by the turnout today, and the beautiful weather, it has been a tremendous success – and we could not have put this on without the help of the community in Winklebury.”
