SHE is just one step away from winning an Oscar of the engineering world.

Farah Azirar is one of just five people shortlisted for the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Young Woman Engineer of the Year.

Farah works for Sony in Basingstoke as an electronic engineer, and has been chosen as a result of her work in research and development.

The 29-year-old has already gone through a tough interview at the IET headquarters in London, facing a panel of eight people asking about her career and passion for engineering.

An electronics engineering graduate of the University of Sussex, Farah said: “My job is great – it allows me to see the future, to be able to identify and see where technology is going.”

Farah, who lives in Surrey, will now attend an awards ceremony at the institution’s headquarters in London on December 1 to see if she can scoop the top prize.
