LIVE music played in the grounds of a Grade II listed building in Basingstoke was enjoyed by hundreds of people.

The charitable Basingstoke Unicorn 2 group held their fifth Summer Picnic in front of Worting House, in Church Lane, Worting.

While about 450 people tucked into their picnics, bands from Basingstoke and beyond took to the stage to perform.

Acts included the Swing Junkies, Freddy and the Boys, who played hits from the 1950s, and Basingstoke rock band Angelus.

Ray Harvey, of Montague Place, Kings Furlong, came to the picnic on his bike.

He said: “This is my first time here and I think it’s excellent. I am very much into live music and I support a lot of local bands, and this is a great setting.”

Other attractions included a Ferrari car display by the Wessex Area Ferrari Club, a bouncy castle, a drumming workshop and a beer tent.

Money raised from the day through gate receipts will go to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and other good causes in Basingstoke.

Steve Day, president of Basingstoke Unicorn 2, said: “The event went very well. We had good weather and plenty of people came along. A big thanks to the Worting House Serviced Offices and the people of Basingstoke for turning up and it making it all worthwhile.”
