A new stage adaptation of a classic ghost story is coming to Basingstoke.

Arcola Theatre and Blackeyed Theatre are bringing The Turn of the Screw to The Haymarket from November 11 to November 14.

The world premiere of this new adaptation by Olivier Award-winning playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm is based on Henry James’ renowned novella.

The story, set in a remote English country house, follows a young governess tasked with caring for two children.

As the tale unfolds, the governess begins to suspect something sinister about her charges, leading her into an unsettling world of ambiguity.

The play teases audiences with the question: are the ghosts real... or a projection of something far more terrifying?

The Turn of the Screw has been a masterwork of psychological suspense, also serving as the inspiration for Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black.

Audiences can expect a blend of compelling performances, clever illusions and stylish theatricality in this new adaptation.

The play is suitable for those aged 12 and over.

Tickets are priced: Fri-Sat £29.50, Wed-Thu £27.50, 2pm £26.50. Friends £23 (opening night).

Tickets can be purchased via Anvil Arts’ box office on 01256 844244 or visit anvilarts.org.uk/events/the-turn-of-the-screw.
