Freeview makes update as channel renamed for Christmas

The update, which took effect on August 26, sees the rebranding of a popular channel ahead of the festive season.

Freeview said: "On 26th August 2026, some broadcasters are making changes to their channels.

"You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date."

Freeview makes another update as channel renamed for Christmas season

Great! Romance (channel 52), has been renamed to Great! Christmas in the latest update.

Great! Romance, which originally launched in 2019 as Sony Movies Classic, focuses on romantic, made-for-TV films.

The change follows other Freeview updates that have already been made this month.

Two new channels have been introduced, Your TV on channel 71 and Your TV Extra on channel 75.

As well as this, three channels have also been renamed, That’s Oldies MCR is now Your TV MCR (channel 79), That’s 20th Century MCR has changed to Your TV Extra MCR (channel 86), and That’s Classics has become Your Music (channel 93).

Freeview added: "Channels are constantly evolving on Freeview with individual channels making the decision to move, add or remove channels.

"Freeview continues to ensure that audiences can enjoy a rich and varied content."

How to retune your TV

Viewers will need to retune their TVs to access the latest channel updates.

Freeview says the process is usually straightforward and only requires pressing 'retune' when prompted by your TV.

If an automatic retune doesn't work, you may need to do a manual retune.

Freeview recommends the following steps:

• Press 'Menu' on your box or TV remote control.
• Select ‘Set-up’, ‘installation’, ‘update’ or a similar option. If you’re asked for a password, the default code is ‘1234’ or ‘0000’.
• Select ‘First-time installation’ (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’).
• Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it's OK to delete existing channels and then your retune should start automatically. If you’re prompted to, save the channels that are found.
