Stagecoach South: £1 evening bus fares in Basingstoke

The promotion, launched by Stagecoach South in partnership with Hampshire County Council, offers £1 single fares on all bus services in Basingstoke after 7pm and will run from September 1 to October 31.

The scheme is designed to make evening travel more affordable, encourage greater use of public transport and support the national Catch the Bus Month campaign.

Marc Reddy, managing director of Stagecoach South, said: "This initiative highlights our commitment to providing affordable and convenient travel options for the Basingstoke community.

"By offering £1 evening fares, we hope to encourage more people to discover the benefits of bus travel, particularly during Catch the Bus Month, while supporting sustainable transport in the area."

Using funding the Government’s Bus Service Improvement Fund, the promotion aims to grow passenger numbers on commercially operated routes by making evening travel more accessible.

Cllr Steve Forster, Hampshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and passenger transport, said: "Cheaper evening fares in Basingstoke this autumn offer a convenient and affordable way for people to travel within the town, whether for leisure, meeting up with friends and family or for a meal out.

"This is good news both for passengers and for local restaurants and leisure venues.

"Working in partnership with Stagecoach, we are pleased to offer this discount over a two month-period, giving people who might not be regular bus users a great opportunity to try the bus and see if it could become a regular choice for some of their journeys.

"It’s another example of how we’re using Hampshire’s Bus Service Improvement Plan funding in a targeted way, focusing investment where there is the greatest opportunity to grow passenger numbers and make bus travel a regular choice by making journeys more convenient, affordable and accessible."

The £1 evening fare applies to all bus services in Basingstoke, including routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 20, 32 and 76.

Basingstoke’s bus network has seen improvements in recent years, with services running up to every 12 minutes across the town and surrounding areas.

The promotion aims to support residents in leaving their cars at home and exploring the benefits of bus travel for evening outings, whether for dining, entertainment or returning home after a day out.
