Tesco has applied for a new premises license for the former WHSmith store and Post Office.
The application, which includes permission to sell alcohol and late-night refreshments, was submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council on August 10 for 5-7 Old Basing Mall.
If approved, the premises could open from 6am until midnight, seven days a week.

The proposal seeks permission for the sale of alcohol off the premises from 6am to midnight, Monday to Sunday, and for late-night refreshment served indoors from 11pm until midnight, Monday to Sunday.
The lot has been vacant since the WHSmith, and Post Office closed on February 1 2025.
Tesco currently has an Express store in the Malls, at 4-5 Hampstead House, several stores along from this new location.

It is not known whether a new store would be in addition or as a replacement to the current location.
Residents and businesses can submit written representations to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Head of Environmental Services before September 7.
