Fresh start for Basingstoke Bison ahead of new season

Ahead of the 2026/27 ice hockey season, the return of club legend Tony Redmond as head coach, new commercial partnerships and a refreshed squad have fuelled optimism among fans and the wider community.

Redmond said: "It's a really exciting time to be back at the Bison.

"We've worked incredibly hard throughout the summer to build a squad that the supporters can really get behind.

"We've retained some key players, brought in some exciting new faces and added real character and quality throughout the team."

After months of preparation, fans across the town are looking forward to the Bison’s return to Planet Ice for what promises to be an exciting season.

Redmond highlighted the positive atmosphere surrounding the club as the new season approaches.

He said: "The response from players wanting to be part of what we're building has been hugely encouraging.

"There's a fantastic atmosphere around the club already, the standards are high every day, and everyone is pulling in the same direction.

"We've got a great blend of experience and youthful energy, and I genuinely believe the supporters are going to enjoy watching this team.

"Now we can't wait to get out in front of our fans.

"Bison supporters have always been among the most passionate in the country, and we're determined to give them a team that competes every single night and represents this club with pride."

Off the ice, the Bison have also enjoyed a successful summer, securing new commercial partners and building momentum in the business community.

Danny Kimber, director of the Basingstoke Bison, said: "Bringing Tony back to lead the team is something we're incredibly proud of, and we've been equally encouraged by the number of businesses that have chosen to join us ahead of the new season.

"The support we've received from the local business community has been fantastic.

"These partnerships are helping us build a stronger, more sustainable club while giving businesses a platform to engage with thousands of supporters and become part of something that means so much to the town.

"We see every partner as an extension of the Bison family, and we're excited to continue welcoming more organisations on that journey."

Season ticket sales remain strong, and anticipation is growing as supporters count down the days until hockey returns to Basingstoke.
