McDonald’s has unveiled an unusual new menu item that is already dividing opinion.
The fast food chain, known for its McFlurry desserts, has long offered the frozen treat made with soft serve vanilla ice cream and a mix of popular toppings such as Oreo pieces, Smarties and Cadbury chocolate.
However, its latest addition takes a different direction.
The new Hot Honey McFlurry, part of the brand’s latest menu update, combines the classic soft serve with a drizzle of hot honey sauce.
Hot honey has surged in popularity in recent years, with its sweet and spicy flavour appearing in dips and drizzles across the food scene.
McDonald’s has now tapped into the trend — but the reaction so far has been mixed.
McDonald's fans divided over hot honey McFlurry flavour
The combination has received a range of mixed opinions from divided McDonald’s fans.
Posting on the McDonald's Reddit page, one person shared: "We had a taste and train session at work today and I got to try the new hot honey McFlurry and suffice to say I'm in two minds about [it].
"It's a very interesting taste not like anything I've had before and I'm not sure if I'm a fan or not, although I do think it will be very popular."
Not everyone was too keen on the idea, as one replied: "Every hot honey product I've tried has been vile, wish this stupid trend would move on already."
Another shared: "All we want is a hot toffee sundae, why can’t they just bring them back."
A third said: "I can't imagine how it would work.
"Vanilla and hot honey just don't go together."
However, some people did defend the idea, as one commented: "Honey in vanilla ice cream has been a thing forever, so basically it's that with some spiciness."
The Hot Honey McFlurry is an app exclusive – so it can only be ordered via the McDonald’s app or the McDelivery service.
If you order it, you’ll be served a plain pot of McFlurry vanilla ice cream, alongside a pot of the new McDonald’s Hot Honey Dip.
The dip is described as a “spicy sauce with honey and chilli pepper” and can also be ordered separately or alongside Mozzarella Dippers.
