They said the latest international recognition is a collective achievement, belonging to everyone who has been part of the Chennai Express journey.

"This award is a celebration of our passionate team, our loyal guests, and everyone who has supported the Chennai Express journey.

Founded in 2018, Chennai Express opened its first restaurant in Basingstoke with a vision of bringing authentic South Indian flavours to Hampshire.

Since then, the business has expanded to a second branch in Fleet and launched a food truck, which offers live cooking experiences at events and celebrations.

The restaurant is run by chef patron Sagar Barlawar and Vamsi Madireddy, both originally from Hyderabad, India, who have combined their passion for traditional cuisine with a commitment to delivering memorable dining experiences.

Chennai Express has previously won honours at the Nation’s Curry Awards, English Curry Awards, Good Food Awards and Inspire Business Awards.

It is also currently ranked the number one Indian restaurant in Hampshire on TripAdvisor.

The Indian Restaurant Congress and Awards’ global edition celebrates excellence, innovation and leadership within the Indian hospitality sector, recognising those who are shaping the future of Indian dining on an international scale.

The award marks another proud chapter for Chennai Express as it continues taking the flavours, traditions and warmth of South Indian cuisine to a wider audience.
