Pupils climbed into an electric waste lorry as part of a hands-on road safety session.
The event took place at Wellesley Prep School in Hook on Tuesday, June 2, delivered by Grundon to mark the 10th anniversary of its schools programme promoting road safety and sustainability.
Pupils had the opportunity to explore an electric waste collection vehicle, learn how recycling works and pick up tips on staying safe around large goods vehicles (LGVs).

Tex Bourton, Grundon’s operational training manager, said: "These workshops are hugely important to us and to the communities in which we operate, because they help schoolchildren understand the challenges that LGV drivers face and highlight the importance of staying visible and aware on the roads at all times."
Pupils learned about the lorry’s cameras, warning systems and other safety features before sitting in the cab to experience the driver’s view.
They also watched waste bins being lifted and emptied, bringing the collection process to life.
Jane Pursell, head of PSHE at Wellesley Prep School, said: "This is such a great initiative and the children had a fabulous and fun day whilst learning about two very important messages – road safety and sustainability."
Since the programme’s launch in 2016, the Grundon team has visited numerous schools across its operating area and talked to more than 1,500 pupils to spread road safety and sustainability messages.
