Farnborough football team fundraising after players injured

Farnborough FC U15 Girls are fundraising after two of their players, Nicole, 15, and Lexi, 14, were injured in a crash.

Both girls have undergone emergency surgery and, between them, have suffered a broken femur, shoulder, ribs, fingers, thumbs, and one of them suffered a severe head injury.

Coach Mike Jones said: "It’s beyond upsetting, it’s heartbreaking. We’re just looking to support them in any way we can.

"We just need as much support from the local community and wider community as possible. We want to help them get back to a normal quality of life and hopefully return to the pitch as well."

The fundraiser is for specialist physiotherapy, specialist equipment, and family support, with an initial target of £3,000.

Coach Jones said that the girls have been ‘really successful’ in the team, winning the league title and the cup last season and securing the league title this season.

He said it is ‘gutting’ that the girls are missing out on the cup final in two weeks, as ‘they have worked so hard to get there’.

He hopes that they will be able to cheer the team on from the sidelines and help them lift the cup.

He said: "We’ve made a really positive start, we’re keen to get it out there as far and wide.

"It’s a very expensive time for the family, on top of how tragic it is.

"The parents didn’t ask for any support; we just want to support the girls anyway we can."

The team has also created care packages for the girls and plans to visit them in hospital.
