A stage production bringing to life the story of a singer once dubbed 'the worst in the world' is heading to Basingstoke this weekend.
Glorious! The Story of Florence Foster Jenkins will run at The Haymarket in Basingstoke from Thursday, April 23, to Saturday, April 25.
Starring Coronation Street’s Wendi Peters as Jenkins and EastEnders’ Matthew James Morrison as her pianist, Cosme McMoon, the play tells the true story of the American socialite who chased her musical dreams despite her famously off-key performances.
A spokesperson for the show said: "Florence Foster Jenkins is about to blow your mind… and possibly your eardrums in the feel-good comedy Glorious! The Story of Florence Foster Jenkins."
The comedy follows Jenkins as she prepares for her concerts, defies critics to follow her dreams and builds an unexpected friendship with McMoon, who becomes her accompanist and supporter.
Wendi Peters is best known for her role as Cilla Battersby in Coronation Street, and more recently appeared as Nina Bulsara in BBC’s Doctors.
Tickets are priced at £31 for the matinee performance and £39 for Friday and Saturday evenings.
