Not sure about you, but don’t you feel all bogged down with the many things happening around the world today?
For some reason, in some way, diesel has managed to creep up to almost £2 per litre, and the whole ‘cost of living crisis’ seems unabated in our world. Yet, we keep going, because we are determined to do well and overcome all these things; we plod along.
Basingstoke is good at that. We just accept what’s happening and try to adapt, as best as we can.
The shoe pinches, but Basingstoke marches on, and it’s great to see.

Our well-being comes into sharp focus. While we all do our best to keep our thoughts, our worries, and our shortcomings quiet, pushing them to the back of our minds and facing the outside world as people who are 100 per cent in everything, we all know this is not the case.
And we all need an outlet, something, somewhere, someone/people to help take our minds off all these things. In many cases, we keep it all in. We even go further and support teams that end up making us even more miserable than if we didn’t love them (try being an Arsenal or Chelsea fan in the last week or so - absolutely frustrating!).
But the outlet is not just that way. It is about people fellowship, people networking, and using the power of sport. Finding and connecting with like-minded people to meet up every now and again, talking sport, laughing, and having a real good banter about it as a way to preserve well-being and de-stress.
It works. And I’m calling on you all to try it.
It is springtime. We are hoping the weather will bring some warmth and not just the deceptive sunshine that’s had me wear my t-shirt because it’s sunny but getting out into the open to find that it is almost freezing temperatures despite the sun - in mid April!
When the weather does improve, get into sport. Watch sport, play sport, follow sport, render help and service in sports meets, just be sporty.
The place for you is Rotary Sport. Speak to us. It can’t be any better than meeting with people of a similar mindset, wanting to share, learn and give through sport in your local area. We are a club that cares for humanity and also for ourselves. Join us, start following us, and let us drive change amongst the sport-loving Basingstoke community.
Our email address is together@rotarysport.org.
Have you heard…..we are pressing ahead with the Young Sports Star award for each school in Basingstoke. If you know of any school student who has impressed, achieved or shown the highest promise in sport this year, nominate the student and watch as we present them with the Rotary Sport Rising Student award for schools and colleges.
Again, send your nominations to together@Rotarysport.org.
It is springtime, and school sports days will be starting. Hurray, the sun will be out, but we will always be here to make a massive difference in the lives of Basingstoke’s youth.
Remember me always, remember Rotary Sport!
