Elderly Manchester United fan fulfils dream and watches game

Ken, a devoted Manchester United supporter who lives at St Thomas Care Home, in South View, was treated to a special day out to watch a Manchester United vs Southampton legends match.

The match resulted in a 5-3 victory for the Red Devils and Ken, who has lived at the home for just under a year, said the experience was deeply meaningful to him.

He said: "I was on the verge of tears.

"It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask."

The team at St Thomas Care Home, who knew how much it meant to Ken to see his favourite football team play again, were all determined to help him achieve his dream.

He was accompanied on the trip by his daughter, a member of the care team, and general manager Jenny Rafemoyo.

Ms Rafemoyo said: "We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.

"We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at St Thomas.

"It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.

"It was wonderful to see how happy Ken was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well."

St Thomas care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals.

The home provides dementia care for 67 residents, with services ranging from respite care to long-term stays.

Ken's football outing was organised after staff learned of his wish to get back to seeing his favourite team playing.
