Basingstoke RFC made the most of their game in hand away to Chichester, earning five huge points and second place in the hotly contested Counties 1 Hampshire after beating the Sussex side 34-29.
The fixture was postponed from the previous week after Chichester's pitch was deemed unplayable by the hosts, giving the side less than a week's notice to rearrange plans and scramble together a team to play on the South Coast.

A much-changed 1st XV fell 10-0 behind before the pack took hold of the game - scores from Luke Wareham, the returning Sam Clarkson and captain Simon Appleby sent the boys 19-10 ahead at the break.
Clarkson's second, a Toby Titcombe effort and a penalty from Rhys Fletcher saw Basingstoke take a 34-15 lead with 10 minutes remaining, a gap too big for the hosts to overcome despite their best efforts.
Elsewhere, Basingstoke's U23 side had a rare run out on Friday night, beating Surrey side 34-28 at Down Grange.
Seven players, including current Colts (U18s) Sam Grace and Matt Duncombe had their first adult games in Basingstoke colours, in what proved to be a hugely successful weekend for the club.
