Diversions of up to 50 kilometres have been put in place following the A34 closure.

National Highways South-East has confirmed that the A34 southbound will be closed near from 9pm on Saturday, February 7, until 9pm on Sunday, February 8.

Diversions for drivers travelling southbound through the A34 and A33 have been put in place.

For motorists travelling south on the A34, an 18-kilometre diversion will be in operation, adding approximately 16 minutes to journeys.

Drivers will need to exit onto the A272 towards Three Maids Hill, take the second exit onto Andover Road North and continue through the city via Sussex Street, Romsey Road and Badger Farm Road.

Drivers using the A33 heading south will face a significantly longer diversion of around 53 kilometres, which is expected to add up to 42 minutes to travel times.

Motorists will be directed to leave the A33 at Martyr Worthy Road, turn right onto Alresford Road and, at the Ladycroft Farm roundabout, take the second exit onto the A31.

From there, drivers should continue to the Spitfire Link, take the second exit towards Winnall Interchange and follow signs into Winchester via Easton Lane before reconnecting with the motorway network using the A34 diversion route.

The closure will remain in place overnight and throughout Sunday, with drivers urged to allow extra time for their journeys and to follow signed diversion routes.
