An award-winning family-owned pizza van will open a pizzeria in a bar.
Following the closure of Gabardine Bar at the Top of Town on January 30, the unit will be taken over by Mono Pizza.
The pizza joint, run by couple, Timofei and Veronica Dragan, has operated in a converted horse box in the Malls since 2023, serving authentic Italian pizzas.
On Facebook, Mono Pizza posted: “We have some incredibly exciting news to share with you all! We are officially taking the reins of Gabardine Bar, a place we know so many of you hold dear.
“So, what’s changing? While we are keeping the soul of the bar alive, we are bringing our signature Mono Pizza flavour permanently to the heart of the city! We are transforming the space into a cozy pizzeria where artisan pizza meets your favourite drinks. We are working hard behind the scenes to get everything ready for you.”
They detail that the new venue will include weekly comedy nights, bottomless brunch, jazz parties, pizza nights and tasting events.
In 2025, the couple won the Best Pizzeria at Slice-O-Mania Pizza and Cocktail Championships, the UK’s biggest pizza festival.
Mono Pizza added: “First and foremost, we want to say a massive thank you to the current owners. We are truly honoured that they have trusted us to take over this beautiful space. Their support and kindness during this transition have been invaluable, and we promise to carry on the spirit of this venue with the same passion they did.”
The new opening date is yet to be announced.
