Cute donkeys and goat visit Ashcombe House Basingstoke

Ashcombe House Care Home, in Worting Road, Basingstoke, welcomed Romeo the donkey and his animal companions as part of a heartwarming visit organised by Kellys Donkeys.

Residents cuddled the animals as they made their way through the care home, even stopping to visit residents in their rooms.

Louise Lambert, general manager at Ashcombe House, said: "Welcoming Romeo, Daffy and Flora the donkey to our home was truly magical for our residents, especially for those who may not often have the chance to interact with animals anymore.

"Seeing our residents light up as they stroked, cuddled, and chatted to our special guests was incredibly moving. These visits play an important role in emotional wellbeing, connection, and laughter. We are so grateful to Kellys Donkeys for making the special experience possible."

Residents enjoyed feeding Romeo his favourite treat — carrots — and chatting to the animals as they made their way through the home.

Romeo donned a Christmas outfit that brought an extra touch of seasonal cheer. He was joined by fellow donkey, Flora, and gorgeous goat, Daffy.

One resident, Shirley, said: "I was so surprised to meet Romeo, Daffy, and Flora, Romeo looked so sweet in his Christmas outfit; he really loves his carrots."

Ashcombe House is part of Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers.
