Hartley Wintney come from behind to beat Egham Town

The Sarnies came close in the first minute when a break down the left found Conner Cullen, who shot wide from a tight angle.

The Row struggled to get into the match and, on 17 minutes, an Egham corner on the left from Daniel Stoke found Steve Brown, who shot just over the crossbar.

Three minutes later, Stoke crossed from the left, and the ball went across the face of the goal with no hungry forwards to snaffle up the chance.

On 26 minutes, Hartley had a good chance when debutant Maurice Black managed to get behind the Egham defence but saw his attempted lob over the outrushing Sarnies goalie, Michael Edegbe, go wide.

Two minutes later, the visitors had a free kick in a good position.

Jordi Ebanda stepped up and his effort went over the crossbar.

Egham continued to press and were rewarded with the opening goal on 31 minutes.

Long throw specialist Luke Wayborn launched the ball into the Row penalty box from the right.

The Hartley defence were unable to clear, and Brown volleyed into the roof of the net from close range (0-1).

Hartley responded well, and Harry Grant combined well with Black, with the latter unlucky to see his shot blocked.

On the stroke of half-time, Zac Horkan crossed and Black headed over.

The second half opened with the Sarnies still having plenty of appetite to be getting more goals.

On 57 minutes, a corner from Deago Dunbar-Bonnie found Reece York, who headed wide.

A turning point came when Hartley brought on three substitutions at once: George Wallace, Sam De St Croix and Calvin Camara.

The game started to swing towards the Row, who penned Egham back.

On 73 minutes, Wallace made good progress and found St Croix, who shot from a tight angle.

The ball went across the face of the goal, and Camara stole in at the back post to equalise (1-1).

Hartley retained the initiative, and six minutes later Horkan crossed for St Croix, who was unlucky to see his effort go just past the post.

On 86 minutes, Hartley scored the winner with a good goal.

Good interplay down the middle saw St Croix play an inch-perfect pass into the path of Camara, who ran on and shot past Edegbe into the net (2-1).

The Sarnies pressed towards the end, but Hartley held on for three points, which moves them up to third place.

The match was a milestone for skipper Liam Gavin.

This was his 100th appearance for the Row and capped the occasion with a very fine performance.

Assistant manager Lee Trussler said: "I felt that in the first half we were 20 per cent down on the intensity we showed on Tuesday against Leatherhead.

"Despite that we defended well and apart from the goal Nick Jupp did not have too many saves to make.

"We upped the tempo in the second half and it paid dividends as we started creating chances.

"I felt we dominated for most of the second half against a good Egham side.

"Calvin did well with the taking of his goals. Credit to Sam for setting them both up."
