Basingstoke Town FC move for Charlie Austin is partially controversial.
The former Premier League goalscorer with QPR and Southampton is having his wages paid through money raised by the fans.
It’s understandable that the supporters would like a top striker, but this doesn’t seem like the best option.
It was only last year The Dragons admitted that at times life’s not easy financially.
If Stoke desperately want him they should be paying his wages, not the fans, in my opinion.
It is a fan run club with only so much money available, if Stoke can’t pay for him to stay themselves then it may not be worth the risk.
Unfortunately, Austin hasn’t played every game this season and was subbed on for only half an hour twice.
Austin has also struggled to score from open play too, despite scoring from the spot on his debut after coming on.
I question whether the move will pay off - time will tell!
