The need for more green, clean energy is surely evident to everyone but how we all get there is a more complex matter.
I always enjoy reading Martin Heath’s Gazette columns and letters.
A champion of sustainability, Martin talks a lot of sense when it comes to improving, and indeed transforming, our energy supply and consumption.

The fact remains that Basingstoke and Deane, like most parts of the United Kingdom, could do a lot better when it comes to being green.
The will is certainly there from some quarters but it is going to require a collective shift in community thinking and actions if we are to improve our sustainability, make inroads to combat the effects of climate change, and progress towards net-zero targets.
The good news is that help – and free advice/support – is available for residents and businesses from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Green Team.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again – Basingstoke and Deane has a real opportunity to be a progressive borough when it comes to embracing and promoting green energy, policies and benefits, and being a beacon for sustainable industries.
We just need to collectively seize the day.
The Government nationally and locally has a key part to play in providing a range of incentives for people and businesses to be green and sustainable – there definitely needs to be more of a carrot approach to encourage and help people to make the switch to green energy and more sustainable living.
