TOP prizes including a trip to Wembley to watch Liverpool vs Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield are up for grabs at a free family sports festival in Basingstoke this weekend.

As previously reported, the Rotary Sport festival will take place in Cranbourne School on Saturday, July 12, from 11am to 4pm, featuring a carousel of different sports like football, table tennis, basketball, bowls and more for families to enjoy.

Alongside a quiz, which will feature separate prizes, and an award ceremony with the Mayor of Basingstoke, Cllr Colin Phillimore, organisers have announced the event will feature a raffle with some top prizes.

Dr Tunde Adelakun, president of Rotary Sport, explained that "juicy prizes" up for grabs in the raffle include tickets to Wembley to watch Liverpool vs Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield, tickets to watch Southampton vs Wrexham on the opening day of the Championship season, passes for the Sports Centre, merchandise and more.

On top of this, members of the community are encouraged to nominate unsung sporting heroes for an award to be presented by the mayor.

This could be someone who has completed a fundraiser, set a personal best, or even a mentor who has guided others to succeed. Nominate an unsung hero by emailing: together@rotarysport.com

Dr Tunde Adelakun, president of Rotary Sport, said: "This initiative by the office of the mayor to partner with us to give awards to worthy people who make Basingstoke sports tick is an absolutely wonderful one; one that resonates with our vision at Rotary Sport to do all we can to create a sporting culture in our town.

"Our role in these awards, happening on a day that we at Rotary Sport have set aside to be a festival day in Basingstoke, is to organise and categorise the awards. It is also to bring into focus the unsung heroes in sport. Now we can’t do this by ourselves.

"Like I have done in previous Rotary roles, it will be great to have the people of Basingstoke call our attention to people who have done great stuff to help the grassroots game, to nominate them and let’s give them a worthy surprise that says 'thank you and well done for what you are doing', as we don’t do it enough as it is.

"We look forward to the nominations and to people turning up at our event on July 12."
