A PUPPY that was hit over the head and left for dead is on the road to recovery thanks to the work of a foster home.
Gunner, a puppy, was found with multiple untreated injuries believed to have been caused by an attack from a large dog.
He suffered four bite wounds - on his mouth, cheek, neck, and below one eye - that became severely infected, leading to abscesses that later burst.
It is believed that whoever owned the puppy attempted to end his life by striking him in the head with a heavy object before abandoning him, instead of seeking treatment for his injuries.

Now in the care of Helping Dogs and Cats UK Rescue in Basingstoke, Gunner is receiving the medical attention he desperately needs.
The infections have been treated, and he is healing well, though he still bears the trauma of his ordeal. His eye, which was damaged in the attack, is being closely monitored. While he retains vision, surgery may be necessary to correct issues with his eyelid and prevent future infections.

Despite his tragic start, this resilient pup has shown nothing but love and trust to those around him. His foster family describes him as sweet, joyful, and full of life, eagerly exploring the world as he recovers.
A spokesperson for Helping Dogs and Cats UK Rescue, said: "He’s healing well, soaking up all the love in his foster home, and exploring the world with a joyful spirit.
"Despite everything, he’s an incredibly lovable, trusting, and sweet boy.
"As you can imagine, his vet bills are adding up, and while we’re overwhelmed with expenses, we couldn’t turn away this precious pup.
