THE finals of a table tennis tournament in Basingstoke and Deane were held last month.

Basingstoke and District Table Tennis Association held its 79th closed championship finals night on April 25, at Old Basing Village Hall.

The evening saw competitive games of table tennis played by a range of entrants, with a category for cadets under 15, as well as the 'Super Veteran' category for players over 55 years old.

Trophies were presented to the winners by the president of the association, Peter Martin, and medals handed to the runner-ups by chairman, Mike Wood.

Phil Ware served as chief umpire for the night.

  • Cadet singles (age up to 15) winner Ollie Case, runner up Aly Jarman
  • Junior singles (age up to 19) winner Bryan Vaz, runner up Joe Parkyn
  • Veteran singles (age 40 plus) winner Phil Snelson, runner up Paul Rattue
  • Super Veteran singles (age 55 plus) winner Martin Gilbey, runner up Barry Dobson, who regrettably had to concede on the night
  • Div 2 singles winner Claudia Nchotu, runner up Neil Abbott
  • Div 1 singles winner Jose M Gonzalez, runner up Bryan Vaz
  • Premier Div singles winner Kasun Wijesekara, runner up Paul Rattue
  • Handicap singles winner Jose M Gonzalez, runner up Sarah Whithorn
  • Mens doubles winners Phil Snelson/Kasun Wijesekara, runners up Jamie Black/Tony Palaczy
  • Ladies doubles winners Fallon Rust/Sarah Whithorn, runners up Celia Hooker/Claudia Nchotu
  • Mixed doubles winners Sarah Whithorn/Phil Snelson, runners up Claudia Nchotu/Kasun Wijesekara

Trophy secretary of the association, Jane MacDonald, said: "Table tennis is a great sport to play.
