A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in Popley on Sunday night.

As previously reported, police were called to a report of a stabbing just before 9pm on Sunday, May 12 at an address in Tasmania Close, Popley.

Two men, both in their 30s were stabbed. A man from Basingstoke was confirmed dead at the scene, while another man, from Newbury, was taken to hospital after suffering serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Police have now arrested a 55-year-old man from Basingstoke on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary reads: "Officers investigating a fatal stabbing in Basingstoke have today arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

"Police were called by the ambulance service just before 9pm on Sunday 12 May to a report of a stabbing at an address in Tasmania Close.

"Officers attended the address and confirmed two men had been stabbed.

"A man in his 30s from Basingstoke was confirmed deceased at the scene, the other victim, a man in his 30s from Newbury, West Berkshire, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated in hospital.

"Police have now arrested a 55-year-old man from Basingstoke on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody."
