FIRE engines along with other emergency response vehicles including police cars, were spotted in Alencon Link on Thursday. 

The response, which saw crews from Tadley, Basingstoke, Rushmoor, Overton, Whitchurch and firefighters from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, shocked shoppers.

Firefighters were alerted to a disused building in the area after smoke was reportedly seen. After working to gain access, the teams investigated the source of smoke using thermal imaging cameras.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Ventilation fans were used to clear the smoke which was coming from faulty light units.

"Firefighters left the scene and returned to station at 4pm following the stop message."
