A CHARITY supporting homeless and vulnerably housed people in Basingstoke has announced the appointment of a new chair of trustees.

The Camrose Centre has named Matt Sheerin the new chair of trustees.

He will succeed Mike Browning, who has served the charity admirably for the past 10 years, is stepping down.

The charity said Mr Sheerin 'brings a wealth of experience and passion for community service' to the role. As a member of the local business community he is poised to lead the Camrose Centre into its next chapter of growth, the charity added.

Mr Sheerin will oversee the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring that it continues to provide vital support and resources to those in need within the Basingstoke and Deane community.

Reflecting on Mr Browning's tenure, Clare Farrow, manager of the Camrose Centre, expressed deep gratitude for his 'unwavering dedication and tireless efforts' in advancing the charity’s mission.

"Mike has been instrumental in shaping the Camrose Centre into the respected charity it is today. His leadership, compassion, and commitment to serving the homeless community have left an indelible mark on all of us," said Clare.

Mr Browning will remain on the board to support Mr Sheerin and to act as an ambassador for the centre.

He will also be working with other Basingstoke Social Inclusion Partnership members to explore the possibility of creating a hub to bring together services for homeless people in the town centre.

Mr Sheerin expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to build upon the foundation laid by Mr Browning.

“Following in Mike’s footsteps is an honour and a privilege, as is working with a talented and committed board of trustees. Having Mike remain in an ambassadorial role and as a font of all knowledge is significant, matched only by his deep conviction to supporting vulnerable local people in their hour of need.

"I look forward to working closely with the team of trustees, staff, volunteers, and community partners to further the Camrose Centre's mission of providing hope, dignity, and support to those experiencing homelessness."
