A new £70,000 play area has opened in the borough.

Wroughton Parish Council hosted a launch party to mark the occasion on Friday, which included a ribbon-cutting, music, bubbles, free ice creams, goodie bags, and refreshments.

The council says the park has been designed to be inclusive, safe, and offer maximum play value for children aged 12 and under.

It also uses components made from recycled post-consumer ocean waste and features new rubber safety surfacing.

Local interpreter Mark Starr attended the launch to teach guests some basic British Sign Language and introduce the event.

Children enjoyed the free circus skills activities by Wroughton’s Outreach Youth team, SMASH, on a sunny spring morning.

Toddlers including Austin Baughan had the chance to put the play area through its paces.

The outdoor site also includes playing fields, a basketball hoop, and a cricket wicket and pavilion, making it a central community hub for the village.

The Weirfield Play Area and Recreation Grounds can be found just off the High Street next to the Wroughton Club. Free parking is located nearby at the Ellendune Community Centre.
