A LITTLE corner of Basingstoke has become Beijingstoke as one sport fanatic attempts to catch all the Olympic action.

When most people are heading to bed, Talia Slack is just getting up, as she lives by Beijing time and stays glued to every minute of the television coverage of the games in China.

Miss Slack, 30, a Radio Solent producer, has taken two weeks off work to watch everything from kayaking and badminton to shooting, cycling and athletics.

"I have always loved the Olympics," said Miss Slack (pictured right), who has decked her house out in Union flags as she cheers on British athletes.

"I'm not one of those people saying it's everyone getting a sporting chance - it's about winning medals."

Miss Slack has set one clock to Beijing time and has estimated that she is getting no more than five hours' sleep a day, so she doesn't miss a moment of the action from the other side of the world.

Despite being a fan of Olympic proportions, the Crown Heights resident is happy watching in her flat rather than in person, due to the Beijing smog and the cost of making the trip.

"I have started saving for the 2012 Olympics in London because that's going to be expensive. I want to go to something every day.

"Anything the British are in I'll watch, especially if they've got a medal chance."
