The former home of a town centre cafe will soon have a new lease of life.

Regent Cafe at 2 Regent Circus permanently closed in late 2019. A Polish restaurant then operated out of the same premises for a short while.

Glorio Fernandes and Caetano D'Costa have now asked Swindon Borough Council's licensing authority for permission to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises from 11am to 11pm Monday to Sunday.

They are opening an Indian and Indo-Chinese restaurant called Mandovi, which is named after a famous bridge in Goa.

Renovation work is currently underway and the new business is expected to open later this month.

The full licensing application may be inspected at the Offices of the Licensing Authority on Floor 5 of Wat Tyler House on Beckhampton Street (SN1 2JH) between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Responsible authorities, and people/businesses living or working nearby, can make representations about this application at any time until May 1, 2024.

All representations must be made in writing - including e mail or fax - to the licensing manager at the above address or by email to licensing@swindon.gov.uk
