I TRIED the new limited-edition summer shakes from Five Guys in Basingstoke.

The burger chain has launched two new flavours, a 'sweet' raspberry and 'exotic' mango, to replace the pistachio which we all knew and loved.

I was excited to try the drinks, wanting anything to get me in the mood for the forthcoming summer months, instead of the downpour of rain and grey skies that we are currently being graced/cursed with.

I was slightly stunned by the price, £5.75 could be considered daylight robbery, especially in a 'cozzie livs' (that's slang for the cost of living crisis) however, I once paid nine quid for a slice of cake, so in comparison, it almost feels like I am saving money.

However, price aside, the raspberry was an unexpected favourite. It was light and summery, sweet without being sickly (a precarious balance, may I add) and tasted fruity without being hugely overwhelming. I could see it being incredibly refreshing come the heatwaves of July.

The mango was okay, but it didn't live up to the high bar that the raspberry flavour had set. It was overwhelmingly sweet and, sadly, didn't taste of real mango. I wouldn't order it again, but if it was sitting in front of me, I'd drink it.

I consider myself the opposite of adventurous when it comes to food; I have had the same order in most of my favourite restaurants for at least five years, but I am glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone just this once to try the drinks.

To sum it up, I would recommend trying the raspberry, it was a very pleasant surprise, but I would give the mango a miss and opt for a more classic flavour like chocolate instead.
