Last weekend saw mixed results for Basingstoke Hockey Club, with the Men's 1s securing a crucial win to earn promotion.

The Men's 1s faced Wycombe Men's 1s in a nail-biting match on Saturday. Basingstoke started well, earning an early penalty corner. The initial drag flick was saved by the goalkeeper onto the crossbar, falling for Daniel Bowden to put into the goal, 1-0. Wycombe continued to put Basingstoke under pressure and a break just before half time led to an equaliser for Wycombe, 1-1. Basingstoke earned another penalty corner early in the second half. The goalkeeper saved the initial strike once again, but the ball fell nicely for Liam Harrison to score the second for Basingstoke.

The game finished 2-1, securing promotion for Basingstoke Men’s 1s back into South Central Premier Division 1 for the 2024-25 season with one game to spare.  Basingstoke currently sit in second place in the league with 55 points and only second on goal difference. It is a fantastic achievement to secure promotion after coming down from that league last season.

The Ladies 1s played their final game of the season against Reading Ladies 2s. Despite a strong performance and a goal from Heidi Lloyd, Basingstoke fell short, losing 1-2. They will remain in South Central Premier Division 1 next season.

The Men's 2s suffered a 3-6 defeat to Petersfield 1s, while the Men's 3s secured a convincing 8-2 victory over Poole Men's 2s. The Men's 4s had mixed results, losing 0-2 to Trojan's Men's 5s before bouncing back with a 2-0 win against Portsmouth Men's 4s. They currently sit second on goal difference with one game remaining in their quest for promotion.
