A PLAN to build four houses has received a final green light from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council - despite concerns raised by residents.

The plan is to build four houses on land adjacent to Gore End Road in Ball Hill, north of Basingstoke.

These include three three-bedroom houses and one four-bedroom house - all with accommodation over two floors.

The applicant, who had previously received permission in principle for the development in November 2021, then applied for technical details consent for the plan.

However, the application was taken to a development control committee of the council held on Wednesday, March 6, following objections from neighbours.

But the councillors decided to approve the application saying they welcome the plans for small houses in an area where you usually find only five-bedroom houses.

The planning officers had recommended that the application be approved.

East Woodhay parish council had also given no objection to the plans.

Cllr Graham Falconer said: “This application was brought to the committee because of the objections, but the objections really applies to the PIP (planning in principle) stage, where as we are now at the TDC (technical details consent) stage. So, we are where we are.

“The design of these four properties is quite welcome. This is an area where normally you get five-bedroom, very large houses. So this would really accord with the East Woodhay Neighbourhood Plan which specifies that it welcomes small housing to satisfy demands of young and older people. So I'm happy with this approval and I support officers’ recommendation.”

Cllr Falconer’s motion to permit the application was seconded and was unanimously approved by other councillors.
