A MAN from Basingstoke who travelled on a train without paying has been fined hundreds. 

On Tuesday, August 15, Taylor Saunders, of Normanton Road, travelled on a South Western Railway train, in Winchester, without paying for the £18.30 fare, with intent to avoid payment.

During a hearing held at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, February 14, magistrates sentenced the 20-year-old.

He was fined £220 and ordered to pay back compensation costs of £18.30.

Court costs of £180 and a surcharge fee of £88 must also be paid.
