Cllr Minas-Bound, who organised the event, said: "It's inspiring to see everyone unite for such a meaningful cause,

"Together, we've not only cleared much of the overgrown hedge in the cemetery but also restored respect and honour to the memory of these children for their families."

The first event had an overwhelming turnout to restore dignity to the final resting place of the children. Many of the volunteers had a very personal connection to the cemetery, others because they lived near by and a group from Basingstoke and Deane Rotary.

Their efforts were instrumental in uncovering numerous graves that had succumbed to overgrowth and neglect.

Jack Ward, one of the volunteers and a parent of two children buried at the cemetery, commented on the Facebook event.

After making such a difference many of the participants expressing a sense of pride in what a difference they had been able to achieve in two hours.

He posted: "Thanks Cllr Simon Minas-Bound, Cllr Jay Ganesh and Cllr David McIntyre for organising. After one session it already looks amazing up there and a huge dent made. See you all in two weeks!"

The idea came about following collaboration between local councillors, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
