BASINGSTOKE figure skaters glided to success with 13 podium finishes, at the Open Figure Skating Competition.

Taking place in Guildford, at the end of January, there were performances across 29 different categories.

In the boys’ categories, Tristan Turea, Nathaniel and Sebastian Poon claimed the top spots, finishing first in National Level one, two and three respectively.

Another first place was handed to Amy Laura World in the National Eight Woman Free Skate too, and second in the National Eight Women Spin.

The success of the skaters is testament to the mentorship of the coaches: Andrew Place, Jenny Woolford, Lucy-Anne Walker, Sam and Carly Elliott, Katie Bennett, David Lunn, Stephanie Robson, Nadia Smith, and Fiona Harris.

A club spokesperson said: "The aspiring skaters dedicate many hours to training at Planet Ice Basingstoke, despite the future of the rink remaining uncertain.

"An eagerly anticipated resolution involving Planet Ice, Standard Securities and BDBC is crucial to securing the ongoing availability of ice and the fulfilment of these skaters’ aspirations."

Elsewhere, in the Beginner Girls 10 and under category, Millie Gemmill was awarded third. In the Beginner Girls 11 to 12 category, Poppy Roberts skated into second, while Freya Griffith third. In the Beginner Girls 13 and over category, Isabelle Smalley came third.

For the Beginner Boys category, Charlie Glasgow reached second.

In the National One Girls 12 and under, Kairi Straughn claimed second.
