A POPULAR community carnival is returning to Old Basing and Lychpit in June.

Old Basing and Lychpit Carnival, which takes place at the Old Basing Recreation Ground, will take place on Saturday, June 15 following on from the success of last year’s event which saw the carnival return after a three-year hiatus.

The event will feature traditional games, exhibitions, displays, craft stalls, arena displays, and a wide range of food and beverages as well as a parade with groups dressed up in themed costumes. The carnival promises to be fun for all the family.

In a post shared on Facebook, the organisers said: “Bringing together the whole community our goal is, along with having a fun day out, to introduce people to new activities and promote local groups.”

The Old Basing and Lychpit Carnival, as it is called now, began life as a fundraiser for the Scout and Guide groups and later to raise funds for the Old Basing Village Hall.

The theme for the carnival is yet to be announced, however, last year's theme was 'golden' for the event's 50th anniversary.
