THIEVES have stolen litres of AdBlue worth more than £300 from a petrol station in Basingstoke.

The incident happened on Tuesday, January 30 at the Londis petrol station, in Churchill Way, near the leisure park.

Hampshire Constabulary has since confirmed that 10 bottles of AdBlue - diesel exhaust fluid, were stolen, which were 10 litres each, as well as £70 worth of fuel.

Sam who manages the garage, told the Gazette that two packets of cigarettes were also taken, although police were not able to confirm this.

Sam, who did not want his surname published, said after the car was filled with fuel a person can be seen on the CCTV taking the AdBlue, he believes this was the passenger of the vehicle.

He said one of the suspects came into the shop and tried to pay for three cans of AdBlue - despite 10 being taken, along with the fuel and the cigarettes but a card was declined.

Sam said despite staff alerting the suspect to the fact the card was declined he left the garage.

The garage manager has been left feeling frustrated, upset and angry.

"We trust that people are going to behave and we usually keep the AdBlue out on the forecourt. We now just keep empty cans there and leave the AdBlue out the back," Sam added.

He said more than £300 of AdBlue was taken, with each can costing £32.99.

In a letter, seen by the Gazette, police told Sam the incident would not be investigated further but a spokesperson has since confirmed an appeal will be issued.

The spokesperson did confirm that a the case was filed, pending any further information coming to light.

They said: "We were called at 10.28am on 30 January to a report of shoplifting at the BP service station on West Ham Road, Basingstoke.

"A man stole cigarettes and fuel before leaving the scene in a black Volkswagen Jetta Sport. Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 44240043039."

A Gazette reporter pointed out it was a Londis garage but was told the comment was referring to the same incident.
