A spokesperson for Stonegate said, “Laarsens, Basingstoke is currently closed. The pub is undergoing some essential maintenance works at present, and will re-open to trade as usual in the coming weeks with a new publican, who is looking forward to welcoming locals back to the community hub.”

Current landlords Phil and Caroline have been running the pub for 21 years, but have called time on their venture in an emotional post on Laarsen's Facebook page.

"Due to increasing utility bills and rising costs of everything, it is no longer viable to continue to run the business.
