An 18-year-old man was seriously assaulted by a stranger in Basingstoke.

The victim sustained facial injuries including a broken orbital bone after being attacked by a man unknown to him in Oakridge Road at around 11.05pm on Friday, December 29.

It was reported that the man had gotten out of a black/grey sports car, similar to a Golf GTI, with under-lighting shortly before the junction with Upton Crescent.

The victim was taken to hospital but has since been discharged. The police are now appealing for information.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “Since this incident was reported to us we have been investigating a number of lines of enquiry in order to identify the man responsible and determine the circumstances of what took place.

“As part of our enquiries we are now turning to the public for help. Were you in the area of Oakridge Road at around 11pm on Friday 29 December and recall seeing an assault?

“We are particularly keen to hear from a person who was standing next to the Tesco Express store who we believe saw what happened.
