A MUM received an unexpected Christmas present this year at Basingstoke hospital as she welcomed a baby boy on Christmas Day.

For Jessie Bushnell, 30, baby Kaeleb's arrival was completely unexpected, as he wasn't due until January 14.

Kaeleb was delivered by a midwife dressed up as a snowman, thanks to the festive spirit of the hospital staff.

"All the staff at the hospital were dressed up," Jessie told the Gazette.

"So he was actually delivered by a midwife dressed up as a snowman. It would definitely be a story to have to tell him once he grows up."

Christmas morning became a whirlwind of emotions for Jessie and her partner Gary when she woke up with contractions, and within moments, the family had to act quickly.

A race against time ensued as the Grazeley resident had to wait for someone to drive her to the hospital located 15 miles away.

"But I decided to take an Uber to the hospital," Jessie said.

"Luckily I just made it there in time. I reached the hospital at around half-six. I was only at the hospital for 27 minutes before I had him."

Kaeleb, weighing 6.8 pounds, made his entrance into the world at 7.06 in the morning, creating a lasting memory for the family.

While the arrival was a Christmas surprise, Jessie and Gary had already decided on the name Kaeleb for their baby.

Currently, Kaeleb is in neonatal care, and the family is juggling their time between spending time with him and celebrating with the other children — Karlie, Kaiden, Kyeran, Kohbey and Kearah.

Family and friends were also caught off guard but delighted by Kaeleb's unexpected Christmas Day debut.

"They were all very shocked and surprised. But Kaeleb obviously decided to make an appearance on Christmas day. They’re all very happy. That obviously is a special day anyway. But now it's even more special," Jessie said.

Looking ahead, Jessie said: "Once we are settled, and next year onwards, we'll probably split the day between birthday and Christmas, but not kind of combined."
